This plant is often called Fake Bird of Paradise, although there is nothing fake about the way this one performs.
It blooms and blooms and blooms all summer long. Tall graceful leaves add to the tropical feel while the open flowers show off with abundance.
Heliconia is not day length sensitive like the true Bird of Paradise, so for a full summer show it has its place around the garden to add that extra flair. the blooms hold up great in a vase for cut flowers and hummingbirds are also attracted to the flowers.
Many times this plant is not ready during the first part of the spring, it takes heat and sun to get this beauty ready for sale. Be patient and stop by later in the spring and early summer to get a good plant.
