NAME: HYDRANGEA (Hydrangea macrophylla)
PREFERS:Filtered shade, morning sun. (Avoid afternoon sun in North Texas)
AVAILABLE : Spring - Summer
HARDY:
-20 to -30 degrees

SIZE: 4'-6' x 4'-6'

Deciduous bush with large green leaves. Mop head flowers begin to bloom in spring and can re-bloom through out summer until fall.

There is also a climbing vine hydrangea, great for those spaces where you want a vine but do not have enough sun for other blooming climbers.

GROWING TIPS:

  • Raising the bed allows adequate watering with out the roots becoming soggy.
  • Peat based soil mix helps add acid to the planting area.
  • Morning sun or filtered shade only.
  • Adding a timed released acidic fertilizer encourages blue blooms.
  • Remove spent flower heads for repeat blooming.
  • One of the few varieties that bloom from new and old wood, this helps with prolonged and repeated blooming, so no need to trim this variety back each season.
