WINTER FREEZE and PANSY ASSESSMENT

With  the latest hard freeze over, it is time to assess any damage that might have occurred to the pansies with close to 70 hours of below freezing temperatures. Most likely the plants have survived and will re-flush with in about two weeks. It would be a good idea to water the beds in thoroughly since the extremely dry weather, wind and cold have dried out any moisture that was there.  If it has been a while since you have applied any fertilizer, adding more at this time would also give the plant structure an additional boost for new growth.

Instant gratification VS patience for plants to re-emerge:
Allowing the plants that are there with a larger already established root system, will grow back in faster than a newly transplanted flower. If the plants show no signs of new growth within about two weeks they probably are toast and replanting would be recommended. We have a fresh crop of pansies coming off ready now for any fill ins, or replacements.

GREEN TIP OF THE MONTH

SWIMMING POOL FILTRATION AND ENERGY SAVINGS:
Our coldest temperatures during the winter months normally occur during the late night and early morning hours  dipping into the 30's and lower which kicks on the freeze protection system on pool pumps and equipment. Since the freeze protection equipment is automatic the filters and pumps run regardless of when the timer is set to run for cleaning and filtration. So instead of setting the cleaning cycle during the day time hours, adjust the time to coincide with the coldest temps of the day and the equipment will be running with in the same time frame that the freeze protection is going to be in use any way. Running the pumps and filters half the time will save money and energy.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF SPRING

Enough already, even though Winter has been here officially for only a few weeks, It seems colder than normal. For a look ahead at what we are growing and planting for this coming spring, we have our "Spring and Summer Annual" page updated and ready to look over to get the ideas flowing for when we get back into the yard and have some fun. Along with the regular plants and annuals we have added a few new items into the mix this year. Look around, enjoy and Spring will be here before we know it.

SOME OF YOUR PLANTS MAY BE DORMANT
BUT WE'RE NOT!!!!!

If  there is not any way you can make it to The Flower Ranch during our limited winter hours, please contact us and we will try to make arrangements to meet you at a convenient time.

Although our hours are cut short for the winter months, we still have shrubs, annuals, mulch, and many products in stock and ready for sale. We are in the midst of growing the products to get ready for this coming spring, so we are around.

Due to the lack of traffic during the slower winter months we do not publish long hours.

When our work and chores are done for the day we are able to go home and spend time with our family and friends before the spring rush sets in.

Thank you for  understanding, and continued patronage of The Flower Ranch.
