WATER WISER, FALL CROPS, & FEEDBACK

FALL CROPS ARE COMING ON STRONG AND LOOKING GOOD
We have a good supply of crotons, dianthus, gerbera daisies, snap dragons, petunias, marigolds and mums for the areas that have flamed out and need to be spruced up. Even with a few more weeks of warm weather ahead, planting annuals with fresh vigor will thrive and show off for the rest of the fall through the first good freeze a few months away.
MORE EFFICIENT WATER USAGE WITH RESTRICTIONS IN PLACE
Twice a week watering can be an adjustment for most lawns that are used to getting irrigation more often. Using the multiple start times on the sprinkler system can aid in getting more water to the roots in a more efficient manner.

Instead of running a station for 20 minutes (times are for example only) set the timer to run each station for 10 minutes and then repeat the cycle. The same amount of water is still being applied but more water is penetrating deeper into the soil with less run off.

Don’t forget the mulch. It is your best friend for hot severe summer weather. It retains the moisture in beds, keeps the root zone shaded, inhibits weeds from taking over and it looks good. A true win / win for the garden.

PANSIES
Can you believe, we have just endured one of the hottest summers on record and we are already talking about pansies? This seems so odd but it is just around the corner.

Our first crop of pansies start coming ready the first part of October. Our hours for September are Monday through Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday 8-12 noon. Beginning October 1st we change back to seven days a week until thanksgiving for the season. Check the website for current hours.

The website is also updated for the fall and winter selections. Check it out. We have added a few new colors and some incredible Flower Ranch exclusive mixes.

BEGINNING OCTOBER 1st OUR HOURS ARE CHANGING

Monday -  Satuday 8:00am until 5:00pm
Sunday 10:00 am until 5:00pm

FEEDBACK:  WHAT WORKED? WHAT SURVIVED? AND WHAT FLAMED OUT?
Driving around town I can see some beds that are still amazing and some that look like the Sahara desert camped out there.

We love to hear from our customers and it is amazing that after 26+ years we still learn something new every day, and much of what we pick up along the way comes from you. Considering the blazing summer we have just endured it would be helpful to know what worked and what did not perform. We are adding the final orders for next spring and this information could be helpful to ensure we have the product you are looking for.

You can email us at   newsletter@theflowerranch.net OR Fax us at  817-431-5959
Or stop by and share your success or failures regarding the brutal summer.
PLANTING TIP
For the annuals and bedding plants that survived and still hanging on, now is a great time for an additional application of ColorStar fertilizer. A feeding of good quality time released fertilizer will make sure the flowers show off with full force until the first freeze, or at least until the beds are replaced and pansies are planted.
