This time of the year we are busy planting our spring and summer color.
T
he spring and summer annual page is also getting updated and should be completed shortly.

PANSY SEASON AND WATERING

To get a new bed of pansies established, water them in thoroughly at planting. Set the sprinklers to come on the two days a week allowed by the city. One hand watering between cycles for the first week or two will be more than adequate to get them well rooted and established. After they have become established twice a week watering is more than enough for pansies. During a normal fall season overwatering pansies cause more damage every year than any other issue. After the temperatures settle into the 70’s and 60’s once per week irrigation is ideal for pansy beds.

***Even if you have access to well water, or live in an area without restrictions, these guidelines still apply. Pansies suffer more from overwatering every year. We address this issue each season, only this year the restrictions will help, not hurt for once. For properties over seeding winter rye grass, wait until the grass is up, and the irrigation is scaled back before planting the color. The amount of water needed to germinate rye grass is a death sentence to pansies.
