YIPEEEEE! we can finally use Periwinkles again........ for many years there were so many different diseases and afflictions for periwinkle in the garden it was a plant at your own risk situation. Now, along comes CORA VINCA, with the same plant habit, dark green glossy foliage, fantastic color selection, heat tolerant and sun loving summertime staple with out the problems of it's older disease prone relative. Even though this newer selection has been greatly improved it still likes HOT weather, and not a good choice for early spring with wet and cooler night temperatures, the later in the spring that you wait to plant them the better they perform for you. Choose a sunny location with at least half a day to all day full sun is preferred. There are two new and improved varieties of Periwinkles that are disease resistant and great for use in our summer gardens, Cora the one we carry, and Nirvana. Although we hope you decide to shop with us at The Flower Ranch, either way make sure the Periwinkle you purchase for your garden is one of these two varieties. They are basically the same introduced by two different seed companies with different names. Very few differences, maybe some in color, BUT they are both good and both resistant to all the problems of the past. |
