Name: Hibiscus (tropical) |
||
Tropical Hibiscus: dark shiny green leaves form a tight shrub capped with large open face colorful blooms all summer long. Plant in the garden or a container in an area that gets at least half a day to all day full sun for best flower production. During the summer months when more frequent waterings are required be sure to add additional fertilizer, Hibiscus can be heavy feeders. We sell Hibiscus in two sizes. They are both the same plant, just grown a different way to produce different sizes: The 6" Floral grade Hibiscus are grown using a different technique to keep the plants shorter and tighter. They start out about 12-14" tall x 10-12 wide. By the end of the summer they should finish out almost 2 feet tall, and about 2 feet wide. 10" container Hibiscus are what we call field grown or landscape grade. These start out about 30-36" tall x 18-24" wide. They are more rapid in growth and finish taller by the end of the summer. Both varieties respond to pruning and trimming for shape or size. Although pruning will cut off a few blooms at the time, it also promotes more blooms in the end, by making fuller bushier plants. Either of the two Hibiscus will last well into the fall or early winter until the first hard frost. |
