This amazing plant has thick fleshy broadly linear leaves in spear-like rosette with a pineapple-like array of purple flowers in late summer. 'Oakhurst' is a strong red purple form and has a real impact in the garden. It is also recommended to cut the flower stalks off and use for a cut flower to keep the heavy blooms from crushing nearby plants. The vase life is said to be pretty good and long lived.
The use and possibilities are endless in the garden. Use it as a strong and bold center piece for containers, a bold accent in the garden or a stand alone accent specimen. At least half a day to full all day sun is best for coloring and blooms.
